Change Management
"Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek" (Barack Obama)

In order to make an effective change in an organisation it is important to understand the dynamics that can affect it.

The amount of control we have over the environment external to our own organisation is usually limited to understanding our customer needs and our supplier capabilities. However things like the state of the world economy and legislation imposed upon us has a significant affect on the way we develop both strategically and operationally.

Our internal environment we can and should  control. It is essential that prior to initiating a major organisational change we really understand all of the contributing factors and are prepared to take remedial action to ensure they are aligned

If there is a need to make a major change, don`t deliberate for too long, be decisive, but make sure you that when you do it you`do it right`

The reasons for the change must be thoroughly reviewed and the objectives clearly defined and communicated by top management well in advance of beginning the project.

The success of the project will then be dependent upon how receptive the rest of the organisation is to what is being proposed. The level of receptiveness will be influenced by factors such as leadership, social interactions, communications, job satisfaction and security etc.

This must cascade throughout the organisation to a personal level where the skill, knowledge and motivation of the individual needs to be suitable for the processes they are involved in and are about to be involved in.

Success is most likely to be achieved when the prevailing organisational enviroment or `culture` in which they are operating is `organic`.

The EM2 Diagnostic Model describes `organic` as;
"Organised with all systems inter-relating allowing for growth and flexibility".
